Finding the right personal trainer for you: the top 3 things to look for
The right personal trainer will help you reach your health and fitness goals. The wrong one will be a waste of your money. So how do you find the right trainer?
You could start with your local gym: many offer personal training services for members. At some you may not even need to be a member.
You might ask a friend – the feedback from someone you trust is always a great starting point.
Of course, you will look online. But the results can be bewildering and may make the choice even harder.
So here is my guide to the 3 most important things to look for in a personal trainer.
Although there are many reputable trainers out there who know what they are doing, there are also those who don’t. So check the trainer’s credentials. Look for qualifications, proof of experience and knowledge. If they claim to be able to offer nutritional advice, then look for a degree or formal training in this area
2. Listens & Understands
A good personal trainer will not take a one-size-fits-all approach to training. They understand that you are unique. They should listen to you, respect your feelings and understand how the right training programme will help you take your fitness and self-esteem to a whole new level
You spend a lot of time one-on-one with your trainer so you need to avoid a personality conflict. You don’t want a trainer who irritates you with the way they speak, or who makes you feel nervous and intimidated. A good personal trainer will make you feel empowered, even when they’re working you to your limit!
So take your time, do the research and, most importantly, find someone you feel comfortable working with.
